Early Voting

Early voting was approved by the Florida Legislature in 2004. Statewide, early voting is currently held a minimum of the 10th day through the 3rd day prior to any federal, state or county election, with the Supervisor of Elections having the option to provide early voting on the 15th, 14th, 13th, 12th, 11th and 2nd days prior to the election. Times vary among counties, but must be no less than 8 hours and no more than 12 hours per day.

On the evening of Sunday, 01 October, 2017 the largest mass shooting in U. S. history happened in Las Vegas, Nevada.  Reports of  shots fired started coming in to Las Vegas Police about 10:08PM local time (Pacific Daylight Time).  Initial reports from Las Vegas indicate the casualties include 50 or more dead and 400 or more injured, many of the injured have gun shot wounds.  The name of the suspect is Stephen Craig Paddock, age 64, of Mesquite, Nevada.  The suspect apparently acted alone and is dead at this time, as he apparently committed suicide shortly before local police assaulted his location at 11:20PM, an hour and 20 minutes after the first shooting report to police.  Las Vegas area law enforcement broke into the 32nd floor Mandalay Bay hotel room that he used as the sniping location to shoot automatic weapons fire at the approximately 22,000 concert attendees of the Route 91 Harvest Festival within shooting distance of the hotel.   Two hotel room windows were broken out so that the shooter could fire on the crowd.  Jason Aldean was the country music musician playing on stage as the shooting started.

Many injured people have been transported to the University Medical Center in Las Vegas, a Level One trauma center.  Several deaths have been confirmed and the death number as of Monday afternoon was confirmed to be 58 or more people with over 500 people transported with injuries.

Paddock was a former employee of a defense contractor, the Lockheed- Martin Corporation and was retired.  He had lived in Florida and moved back to the Las Vegas area about 2 years ago, reportedly due to allergies and was a frequent visitor to Las Vegas and downtown casinos.  Recent large cash transactions by the alleged gunman in excess of $10,000 have been documented but it is unclear if they are gambling winnings or losses or if they are directly tied to this attack.  Ten guns have been identified as being in the hotel room used by the shooter, who had no significant police record.  Rifles chambered in .223 (also known as mini- 14) and .308 calibers have been found that are associated with the alleged killer.  The father of the apparent shooter has a criminal history including a prison escape in 1968 and remained a fugitive until being re- captured in 1978.  Eric Paddock, the shooter’s brother and Florida resident gave a statement to media and described his brother as not a criminal and “just a guy”.  Paddock’s residence in Mesquite was searched and secured earlier today.

U. S. President Trump tweeted a condolence to the victims and families at about 04:00AM today.  White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee- Sanders conducted a press conference today and at 2:15PM Eastern Time refused to answer any questions about gun policy or gun control, brushing off multiple gun related questions from reporters.  At 02:41PM, President Trump and Vice President Pence with spouses and White House staff including Marine guards conducted a moment of silence for the victims of this tragedy on the White House lawn in front of the Truman balcony.

The Middle Eastern terrorist organization, Isis issued a statement stating it was responsible for the attack.  This appears to have no credibility at all at this time.

On Sunday, 10 September, 2017 Hurricane Irma went through Saint Petersburg, Florida and there was 8.0 inches of rain in my rain gauge.  On Friday, 29 September, 2017 a storm that was not a hurricane went through Saint Petersburg, Florida and there was 5.4 inches rain in my rain gauge.  So a big hurricane only dropped 2.6 inches more than a non- hurricane rain storm. It appears to me that over the last 3 to 4 years, rain storms are dropping high amounts of rain more and more frequently.

Is this due to disruptive climate change resulting from atmospheric heating? I think so. This is one of the predicted effects of disruptive climate change. I see more and more soil erosion happening right in front of the studio from heavy rain fall. In the past, this did not happen nearly as often as it has in the last one to two years. I am going to have to do some mitigation work to stop the soil erosion. This is just one small step to prepare for what is coming. There will be a lot more to come.

This is so insignificant compared to what the people of Puerto Rico are having to deal with right now where there is very inadequate water, food, shelter, electricity, fuel, money, transportation and medical care!  Remember the people of Florida and Texas, as well.  People are dying!  And this is only the beginning of the climate change era.

Today, Wens. 24 May, ’17 Greg Gianforte, Republican and candidate for the U. S. House Of Representatives in Montanta got into a physical confrontation with Guardian Newspaper reporter Ben Jacobs.  This incident happened at a campaign headquarters office volunteer barbeque event in Bozeman, Montana.  A television crew was setting up for an interview in a side room of the office.  Jacobs tried to ask a question of Gianforte regarding the Congressional Budget Office score of the Republican sponsored American Health Care Act.  The C. B. O. report was just released today and the Special Election for the seat in the U. S House Of Reresentatives from Montana is tomorrow.  Gianforte was in the room, apparently waiting to be interviewed.  Jacobs entered to ask Gianforte his questions regarding the C. B. O. report prior to the television interview starting, stating that this was his only opportunity to do this that day.  Gianforte had an altercation with the Guardian reporter.  Reportedly, he broke the reporter’s glasses and “body slammed” the reporter to the floor, yelling “Get the hell out of here!”  Jacobs had his telephone audio recorder recording and recorded the incident in full.

After the incident, Ben Jacobs called his editor and then local police.  Police, an ambulance and the local Fire Department were dispatched to the site.  He was then taken to the hospital in the ambulance and treated for an injured elbow with an x- ray.  The audio he recorded was posted on the Guardian website.  Find the audio here: https://youtu.be/fhoH4v8xYlU  The Gallatin County Sheriff’s Office is investigating.

Later, Ben Jacobs called in to the MSNBC primetime news program “All In” and was interviewed by Chris Hayes.  He described the incident and played the entire audio segment.  BuzzFeed News reporter Alexis Levinson was directly outside the room and could see into the room where the altercation took place.  She witnessed the incident with an obstructed view and was also interviewed by Chris Hayes, stating she could hear the body slam as a “loud crash”.  Tom Ricks with Foreign Policy magazine condemned the incident on air.  A fair hearing of the Jacobs audio recording supports his version of events and contradicts the Gianforte version of events.  Later reporting on MSNBC quoted a Fox News reporter who was a direct witness to the assault and who identified Gianforte as the attacker.  The reporter, Alicia Arcana, also stated that Gianforte punched Jacobs, grabbed him by the neck, threw him down and then apologized for the assault.  A press conference by the Gallatin County Sheriff’s Office was inconclusive on what happened during the incident and have not made any arrests to this time.  There is ongoing television news coverage of this breaking story.

The Special Election on Thurs. 25 May, ’17 is being conducted to elect a new U. S. Representative to replace Ryan Zinke, who was appointed as Secretary Of The Interior by the Trump Administration.  Rob Quist is the Democrat candidate in the election and has declined comment to this time.  Will this affect the election?  The next 24 hours will tell that story!

During the 6:00PM E. D. T. hour today, Mon. 22 May, ’17, there was an apparent terrorist attack in Manchester, England at the Manchester Arena that was the site of an Ariana Grande concert.  The concert was ending as the attack occurred and was not actually in the large arena itself but either in the lobby or entrance areas or directly outside the venue and was a bombing attack with one explosion and apparently only one lone suicide bomber.  Initial reports from social media and local media in England indicate that 19 people are dead and 50 people were injured in this attack.  The attack apparently was an independent attack.

Other reports indicated Police later detonated a device near the arena and advised people to not be afraid as this was being done by the police to secure the area.  This appeared to be an additional bomb left by the bomber.  Later reports indicated that this information was wrong and that the purported bomb was just a pile of clothing and there was no second explosion.  There has been no information from the police as to the perpetrator, or claims of responsibility to this time, so a lot of basic information is unconfirmed or unknown at this time.  The Manchester Arena is the largest concert venue in England and has a capacity of about 21,000 people.  Ariana Grande is a young American pop musician.

Happening Now: media reports indicate that President Trump has fired James Comey as Director of the Federal Bureau Of Investigation (F. B. I.)!  Surely, there was legitimate cause to fire him but why was the timing today?  Andrew McCabe, the Deputy Director of the F. B. I., is this now Director of the F. B. I.  Is this a slow motion, Nixon style “Saturday night massacre” by the Trump Administration, motivated by the danger that the F. B. I. investigation into Michael Flynn and his and the Trump Administration’s connections to Russia pose to this Presidency???  On MSNBC’s Hardball, Chris Matthews just used the term “Tuesday night massacre”.  So, I am not the only one wondering about this aspect of this situation!  Now, the U. S. Senator from New York, Charles “Chuck” Schumer just asked the question I asked earlier in this paragraph…… “Why now?”

Spectrum 360 Media Participates In Aerial Survey Of The Sabal Trail pipeline

On Tuesday, 07 February, 2017 Spectrum 360 participated in an aerial photographic survey of the current state of the Sabal Trail Pipeline (S. T. P.) in central and north Florida.  Flying from an undisclosed location, the all volunteer crew overflew the pipeline route, surveying from the Dunnellon area to the Kissimmee area in Florida.  Photographer Mark Skogman acted as still photographer and video photographer for this flight.  Second photographer was Jim Tatum.  Navigator was Andrea Rea.  Good job, everyone.  The team immediately gelled and concentrated on the big task at hand.

Today, at approximately 6:35PM Eastern Time, it was announced that the U. S. 9th Circuit Court Of Appeals in San Francisco, California ruled on the Trump Administration’s Executive Order on Travel from 7 majority Muslim countries in the Middle Eastern region of the world and allowed the temporary restraining order by the lower courts to stay in effect.  This is the second ruling by Federal Courts on the so- called Travel Ban.  The ruling allows the injunction to stay in effect in the State Of Washington Et Al Vs. Donald Trump case.  This prevents the travel ban from being implemented as written.

The ruling was issued by a three judge panel of the court that includes Carter appointee William Canby Jr., G. W. Bush appointee Richard Clifton and Obama appointee, Michelle Friedland  This is a significant legal defeat for the Trump administration.  Critics of the Trump Administration interpret this as a clear indication of the incompetence and unconsitutionality with which the order was drafted and then implemented with it’s subsequent chaos and disruption of Federal Agencies, international travel and the lives of the individual persons and families affected.  At least one person has died due to the the situations that the travel ban created as reported by Democracy now last week.  The countries affected by the travel ban are: Iraq, Iran, Syria, Libya, Sudan, Yemen and Somalia.  Some of these countries are taking measures to retaliate.

Donald Trump has vowed that his Administration will fight this ruling and downplayed the ruling in brief comments to reporters in a hallway at the White House after the ruling was announced.  Will this include Donald Trump continuing to insult the Federal Judiciary via Twitter? Only time will tell.
